Also fore the HARDCORE versus CASUAL debate fuck you all. Videogames are just videogames.

No, this isn't how it should be. I don't want to play a shallow fighting game and I'm sure most people wouldn't want to either. I'm not saying it should be aimed at hardcore gamers, but a fighting game needs to have depth to it. Nightmare said it better than I ever could.

Maybe something along the lines of...easy to learn, hard to master.

This is exactly what a great game should be, fighting or not. Melee was like this in my opinion. Hopefully you're right and this is what they're actually trying to accomplish.

@Cheesy: Personally, I loved Melee's fast paced fights. I thought I'd hate Brawl's speed, but after seeing some gameplay clips, I like it. They've slowed it down slightly (or so it seems) but it still looks like it'll be fast enough. It's a great balance between SSB64 and SSBM's speed.

Luigi with the Vacuum is very likely. They're trying to make everyone more up-to-date with the latest games, so I wouldn't be surprised if we saw it in Brawl. Besides, even though he isn't the clone that he was in SSB64, Luigi is still somewhat similar to Mario. He should get a new moveset anyways, and the Ghost Vacuum would be a great addition.

Was Toad in SSBM?  Mario, Luigi and the Princess were, so...

Toad would be awesome.

Toad was, and I think still is, Peach's horrible B move. Toad WOULD be kickass, though... Man, now that I think of it, Toad being a playable character would be so cool.

Also I don't think that the Wiimote or Wiimote/Nunchuck combinations will be utilizing movement and such... That'd be overly complex and just stupid, imo.

That's what I was saying. Games can be easy to learn and hard to master without a bunch of losers pulling the "lol hardcore gamer u suck b/c ure cascual" bullshit. I find the entire concept of "gamer" totally fucking annoying. Ten years ago it was just people who play video games.

Also! Question? If Mario gets FLUDD, what are the odds of Luigi getting the Ghost Vacuum?

I was thinking this the other day. I thought that, instead of the Luigi Missle or Luigi Tornado or WTF they should add this, and maybe even give him a separate movelist. The odds are high, I say.

With the nunchuck it feels like a gamecube controller that is split in half- which feels FUCKING INCREDIBLE. If you've played Twilight Princess you know what I mean- you don't have to force your hands together on this tiny little controller but can relax with your arms at your sides and play with the same feel of control.

Yes, for other games it feels awesome for me too but for Brawl it seems awkward.

I never said anything about "lol causal gamers sux." My whole point was that they shouldn't just focus on the casual gamer, which is what that quote made it seem like they were doing. I can see it happening too. I mean, the first SSB didn't have hookshot/grapple recoveries. Melee had them (in addition to your standard up+B) but you had to time them well and hit the edge of the stage. Now in Brawl, they're automatic. All you have to do is just hit Z and bam, as long as you're within range, your safe. It's like making your up+B automatically propel you onto the stage.

Automatic tether recoveries aren't a big deal, since it isn't even that hard to pull them off in Melee (although it is fun when someone misses the ledge), but I don't want to see more things like this simplified just so the casual gamer can feel good about himself.

I def. don't want Sakurai to make SSBB into what the Wii is making its other games.
Yesterday I was at target, in the game section, and this 5 year old kid was getting his dad to buy him a wii. I thought to myself, "Wow, you'd never see that with PS3."

Maybe I'm a prime example of what you guys are saying is bad, but I don't want Brawl to be a game that 5 year olds can play. Of course excluding prodigies and the like.
Smash bros has the potential to be the only wii game that can capture the attention of my own generation, the generation that grew up with an NES attached to their tv. Of course everyone has their own preferences, but most people over a certain age, or level of maturity, are playing Halo, Call of Duty, Madden 2008... Games that aren't available on wii.

I guess IMO, Smash bros is leagues above Wii Sports, and other games aimed at teaching the next generation of gamers to stick with Nintendo. Though I'm positive Brawl will be the #1 Wii game for a long while, it could in fact stand up and rank with big games on consoles for the gamers that buy with their own money. Assuming this game isn't dumbed down for kids.

Is that a joke or are you basing that off the country you live in? Ten years ago the 64 came out. Where I lived games were not part of the nerd cluster and I don't imagine it was different in much of the USA. Except maybe down south...  :fogetmmh:

ok so maybe 10 years ago it wasnt as obvious but it was still not as mainstream as it is now. how many ddr games were out 10 years go? those were the first mainstream games imo.

maybe NERDS is not the right word but it definitely wasnt the COOL CATS thing to do.

Yeah. I wonder why I asked him if he was basing it off his country then? :fogetshrug:

Yeah, it's pretty undeniable that games are way more mainstream now then they were then, I don't and can't disagree with that.

maybe that's why the PS3's sales suck and the Wii is doing incredible!!

that's what i mean champ. i'm talking about terminology.  it wasn't GAMERS it was just nerdy kids played videogames. nowadays it's people who calls themselves GAMERS (which is one of the stupidest terms right up there with blogger) as some false sense of elitism. if you call yourself a HARDCORE GAMER that means in your own little world that you are superior to the casual gamer who just plays games for fun once in a while. which is total bullshit

pfff im going offtopic but come on don't some of you guyts see how fucking stupid you look. i don't consider myself a hardcore gamer but i sure as hell don't want ssbb to be playable by five year olds either.

i mean someone posted a pretty good example of this earlier in the thread. something about smashboards being okay if you are "one of the GOOD players to access the secret forum" well just so you know i would rather not be so good at the game and not have access to your secret subforum have fun high-fiving each other over your wavedashing.

this is like my roomate who was insulting my other roomates and saying that they arent REAL GAMERS for playing online. but they looked like they really didn't give a shit if they were REAL GAMERS or not they were having fun playing some skateboarding game with eachother.

moral of the story: video games are just about having fun so who really gives a shit!

man being a hardcore anything looks dumb to someone who isnt a hardcore anything. i consider myself a hardcore game purely because i PLAY A LOT OF GAMES and know what i like (note: not most of what the wii currently has)

i think youre kinda going off on some kind of ANTI-LABEL rant which is fine but labels are handy as it does make it easier to tell other people what you are. i dont think i am better PEOPLE than "casual gamers" but i do believe i know what i want more than them and have far more experience to back up my points.

i mean yeah you have HARDCORE GAMERS (which to me are just casual gamers who have been playing for a lot longer) and then you have ELITIST GAMERS which are the big morons who hang out on secret forums and dont play anyone below a 1.2 point ratio average winsvlose ratio.com. if you are talking about those, i agree fully, they are idiots.

so um yeah, theres a difference between hardcore vs casual and elitist idiots vs everyone. catering purely to the casual crowd hurts everyone else, as does catering to the elitist idiot crowd. catering to the middleground (me) means casual gamers would enjoy it if they just tried a bit harder and elitist idiots can go fuck themselves i dont care about them.

so yeah f off noob......

edit: also yes, the wii is selling a lot more. they are making a TON of moneys by catering 90% to the casual crowd and 10% to everyone else, and it was a great market move. sucks for me, though.

also im not getting into a wii casual vs hardcore arguement again so i will only be responding to despain and probably not even for long.

Hardcore gamer is just a word that nerds use to retain dignity. Obviously a nerd isn't going to be cool shit at a basketball game, so a basketball player won't be cool shit in a game of halo 3.
Wii is taking that away though, anyone can be good at wii (even a lego robot).
I'd imagine basketball wouldn't be near as popular if someone came out with this revolutionary way to make nerds really good at it.
That's my idea anyways. There's obviously a reason we (nerds) don't like the wii, and I understand completely why someone wouldn't want Brawl to be in that group of games with DDR. I guess it's just like one of your favorite underground bands getting mainstream.
