"However, the plan is for that stage to vanish once one day has passed. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime encounter."

So, if its a really good stage, you can't keep it? Lame :(

Ones YOU make, YOU KEEP!

Ones chosen as best will vanish after there 24hrs of spotlight are over.

Maybe if the chosen map is really good and you like it, there'll be an option to save it somehow, I hope.

i'm going to make a million variations of Final Destination.
I was just about to say that all tournaments will be in a custom map that is completely flat.

The map that you receive every day - is it going to be a featured map that everyone will be able to download or is it just a map some dude submitted and was randomly sent to you that day?

It'll be a featured map from the previous day's submission.  Or that's the plan.  It seems that the Wifi stuff isn't set in stone yet, judging from his update.

I'd imagine that there would be an option to save a featured map that you really liked.

Maybe, but think about how much work it would take for some guy to playtest thousands of submitted maps each day to decide which one should be featured?

I was thinking the same thing.  It's probably just randomly selected from all the submissions (so we may yet see a PENIS map).

My head is already spinning with map ideas.  Off the top of my head... the bottle.  A bottle-shaped enclosed environment to fight in.  Like a cage match except the only way to smash someone is to smash them through the narrow neck of it.  Although that's not a guaranteed kill as they could climb back in.  Also, there are a few jump-through platforms inside the bottle.

That's what I was gonna do!  Dr. Mario stage, anybody?

I think I'll make a map that discourages people who avoid fighting.  All the platforms outside of the center one will be conveyor belts that push people standing on them back toward the middle of the stage, and therefore back into the fray.  In fact, The Fray would be a perfect name for that board.  Hmm...what else should I do with this map-maker? :fogetcool:

A level where all players are walled in, but with breakable walls (if you can do that). I'd sure love that. I'd be cool if you could do something like having players take extra damage if they're slammed on a wall.

Yeah there's probably an option to save them if you like them.

This got me more excited than Sonic honestly. YES. Me and my friends will have tons of fun with this one. I know i'll be remodeling levels from old games (Metroid, Mario, Kid Icarus, etc) and forcing my friends to play as those characters for DOUBLE THE FUN.

Also how'll this work with picking stages in general for regular multiplayer matches? Will 'Random Stage' count towards custom stages as well?

i like this idea, i'll make it with the floor destroyable except for the 4 spawn points which are indestructible. so eventually it gets down to like 4 blocks to stand on.

i think a tetris map with falling tetris blocks would be neat, but i doubt you could do that.

Too bad this looks like it can only be used for making fighting arenas. It'd be fucking great to be able to create levels for the adventure mode where you could place a beginning, an end, enemies and power ups. Hey, they did it in Megaman for the PSP, so it'd not such a crazy idea. But hey, any stage builder's better than no stage builder.

Nintendo need a slap for not thinking of that already!

Who says that they haven't? (Admittedly, I wouldn't be surprised if they haven't devised this for Smash. It sounds brilliant though.)

Also, the amount of fan service contained in this title is unparalleled. This is as close to getting a blow job from a Nintendo developer as any of us will ever get.

There is no way i'm NOT making a stage that is a bunch of thin skinny columns for players to JUST BARELY stand on. AERIAL FIGHTING IS A GO GO!

I was just about to say that all tournaments will be in a custom map that is completely flat.
Just as a question for tournament players: why is it that all the house rules for tournaments seem to be about trying to remove as much depth from the game as possible? I understand taking away elements that rely on randomness (sorta. In that I see why people would whine if you didn't--players who refer to themselves as "competitive" almost always have excuses for making the things they're not good at illegal), but I don't get why you would remove strategic elements.

The same question begs itself when I hear people talking about disabling smash balls and all this other stuff. It's like they want the competitive game to be as arbitrarily unlike the actual game as possible.
