You have a point but it would have been cooler if Nintendo stuck to the games moreso than "whatever the random public knows". I mean they've been sticking to that sort of cool detail for other games- little things than make fans all giddy when a tiny little thing is included.
I guess it can be blamed on the popularity of that shitty cartoon that gave a bad name to the best game series ever. 
I see what you're getting at, but at the same time, a lot of the older fans remember the earliest part of the series and that's what gives them that "giddy" feeling you're talking about. A friend of mine who still plays Pokemon agrees with me about the whole move list and he'd rather see the older moves than the newer updated ones mentioned above.
I used to play it back in the day, but I gave up once the series went past the original 151. A lot of the older fans did too, including most of my friends whom I smash with. I'd much rather have the three classic signature moves than the new ones, but I guess it's because I'm somewhat biased.
