The idea for this poll popped into my head after reading a reply in the PS3 topic where someone said their PS2 recently died, and I began to wonder how often consoles do die. Have any of your consoles ever died? If so, why?

It has only happened to me once, and it was about ten years ago. Something came loose in my Game Gear, and for some reason I just never had it looked at so.. yeah, that was the end of it. I had it for four or five years before it was finished.

Actually, my PS2 just died pretty recently. I'm pretty sure it's something wrong with the disc drive as it doesn't seem to recognize any of my games as PS_ games.

Yeah, I loaned my Dreamcast to a friend, and when he returned it, it didn't work anymore.  That's part of the reason I no longer loan anyone anything.

I had this same problem, luckily I got a new one with an extended warranty.

My Gamecube also broke once but we managed to find another for like $40.

Yup. 5 years after I bought it, my PS2 would boot directly to the OS instead of the game. Took it for repair and when I brought it back, it happened again, so repair again and it happened again :\

So I decided to open it and look around, after it opened, I decided to see how the disk spins inside and stuff, so I plugged in the power and lo and behold! It was working! (without the cover) So it works now and I never put the cover back on ever again.

Never an actual console, but all my controllers for Genesis and SNES disintegrated on the inside or something, and I had to replace them recently.

My playstation 1 broke a long time ago, at one point I would have move the PSX upside so that I could actually play games. One must remember that sony makes fragile pieces of crap.

I doubt my psp could survive some of the things my DS has been through...

my NES doesn't work very well, but it could just be the cartridges.

Shoot. I voted once for my PS2, but I forgot about my SNES and NES. Those don't work at all anymore. :(

When I was 6, my father was setting up to play our Atari 2600. When he turned it on, there was a sizzle, a bang and a large puff of black smoke came from the cartridge slot........... I don't recall how old it was back then, but I do recall it was one of the original model ones.

That matters.. ?

You can treat your consoles like royalty, they'll still break down if they are faulty.

i live with an 8 year old brother and a 12 year old sister. mind you now its much better, but 2 years ago or so my systems would breakk. The xbox has broken 3 times (once because the power cable got fried, once because the modchip got loose, and then lastly permenantly when the modchip got completely loose while the AV cable stopped working). I have 2 gamecubes, one of them works perfectly and the other one cant read games... . My PSP's screen cracked a while ago. I sent it in to sony just waiting for it to come back.

other than that usually before it used to be console controllers breaking etc. my brother was very little and  i was ignorant enough to let him play with the xbox while i was not home.

And? It still matters to take care of your consoles because they can break even if they aren't faulty.

Yeah, if you smash on it repeatedly or give it bubble baths to spoil it or something....  :fogetmmh:

I wonder if I should say I've had two die? Not really though, but my DS has been dead for over a year because someone lost the adapter for it last fall. I don't think I care about the thing enough to go pick up a new one anyway, since I didn't play it A LOT but...

but ds occasionally a console is faulty anyway therefore why bother taking care of any o fthem...???

ive never had a console break. my megadrive etc still even work. i got one of them cooler master things for my 360 too so hopefully that helps.

edit: uprc no, but stuff like LEAVING THEM ON THE FLOOR or LEAVING THEM ON OVERNIGHT or LEAVING THEM IN A PILE OF THEIR OWN DUST or shit all counts as "not taking care of it"

It's more likely the 72 pin connector inside the NES than the actual games themselves.  They have a tendency to go bad.

I've NEVER had any console die on me before these "New Generation" consoles and now I've had both my X-Box 360 and my PS3 die!

The X-Box lasted about 6 months and the PS3 only lasted 3 (receipt says I bought it August 19th).

I take excellent care of the consoles so it pisses me off...

Haha, on the floor. Man, that would be asking for trouble.

I've never had a problem with dust. My PS3 sits behind my monitor and gets a little dusty, but I wipe it off every few days anyway (which is more often than I play it! hmmm...)
