Banana Extinction:
http://www.the-scientist.com/news/display/54710/

Basically, the bananas we eat now (Cavendish) are cloned, and thus they are all genetically identical, and thus they are unable to resist the fungus that will wipe them out.

Either they'll genetically modify the bananas, or we'll find a new banana. :/

I wouldn't be too bothered if bananas went away.. I usually eat apples and berries for my fruit fix.

Eh? Bananas grow in my back yard. There are at least 5 trees. So the very first sentence of the article is wrong, because these are not "modified"...

Yes they are.

If there's only one strain of bananas, and they have seeds, and you plant them, guess what comes out? The same banana strain.

Cavendish bananas aren't grown through sexual reproduction.

thats pretty weird to think about, usually people talk about animals going extinct not fruit.

would be a pretty cool story to tell your grandkids though "in my day we had a yellow phallic shaped fruit"

Yes they are.

Actually, they've been there since forever. I think my grand father planted those, AND I live in the tropics btw :)

Nothing I guess! I was just saying that those trees were there for a long time, maybe even before this research thing started.

From a few different sources, in case you're thinking it's a spoof.

It's something called objectum-sexuality.
In a nutshell - she finds objects sexier than men.

The last line of the first article still cracks me up:
"The Great Wall of China's attractive, but he's too thick - my husband is sexier."

Do you think you could ever fall in love with a object? I don't mean obsessing over money, cars, or new computers (haha), but actually wanting to have a physical relationship with something that...well, doesn't really communicate back.

I mean, how completely delusional does one have to be...

I wonder if she finds it disgusting that some people have pieces of her husband's body as mementos.

While she remains a virgin with humans, she insists she had a full, loving relationship with the wall.

What.

parents don't love me (litterally they told me)

That's pretty weird. it's the first time I've heard of objectum sexuality. Maybe she's just a nutcase?
