I'm not sure about that.

Well, to be more specific, that's risky as hell. Could it work? Sure, it worked for Iron Man, but given that Batman's world is a lot more intricate and detailed than Iron Man's world, making a whole new villain separate from the relatively strict continuity of the comics is a risky venture; hell, comic book fans were pissed as it is that Rachel Dawes was in the films at all.

Like I said, it could work, but it's a gamble. I'd vote against it, personally.
Well I think everything they did so far was a gamble and I dunno how it has been fitting with continuity but seriously fuck it. At this point they've got enough fans that aren't comic buffs and I think the only reason this films are so popular is they do break the mold. So I really wish they'd keep doing that and create a character instead of plucking another. I think one of the biggest problems with these movies is that they are Batman movies and it limits them in a way, and maybe they'd never have had the same success with a completely original character as they are having now but I think they'd have made for better movies honestly.

Oh, huh, someone told me it was his last. Which other movie is he in that's coming out?

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is Heath Ledger's final work although incomplete since he died during filming.

The Dark Knight marks his final finished movie.
Ock ock, Ack ack!

Uhhh what? If you're referring to Obadiah Stane's giant metal suit, that's Iron Monger from the comics.

Ah, you're right, my bad.

You make a good theory, but I honestly don't know how it would turn out in practice. Making up characters, villains at that with movies like this is seriously putting all your chips on the table, considering that this is the third one, and especially considering how well received the Joker was. I don't think Nolan wants to fuck that up.

Besides, there's still Bane. Seriously, Bane.

Who else is there, though? Batman doesn't really have the most extensive rogues gallery that would fit Nolan's purposes.

Unless they used Bane. Fuck yeah, Bane.
the reinvented version of mr freeze from the animated series/more recent comics is easily one of the best villains around.  they should definitely use him!

as for bane yeah. i mentioned him beofre i think (maybe it was on another forum i dont remmeber if i replied here) or hush, although hush doesn't have much of a history that would have him included in a movie. but bane would be fantastic especially if they do him RIGHT, intelligent and everything, and figuring out batman's identity. it would be a great toryline too and would tie in nicely with the ending of this one.

You're right. So, judging from things as it stands, it's likely to come down to Mr. Freeze and Bane. Who do you guys think they should use?

Wait, why not Riddler? How did he suddenly fall out of it?

I assumed the Riddler wasn't really in the mix because in my opinion, the next villain should be someone who can actually go head to head directly with Batman. While the Joker and the Riddler are two different villains, in execution they would be awfully similar.

Mr. Freeze and especially Bane are two enemies that can, and have beat the shit out of Batman, and that's the kind of dynamic that the movies are due for.

dude have you read any of the posts in this topic about the riddler or even know anything about the riddler at all because they are pretty clearly not the same! heath ledger's joker was kind of a polar opposite to everything the riddler stands for. calm, clean, cunning, fucking genious, elaborate deathtraps, all of these things are missing from the joker.

bane would be cool as long as he is totally opposite of what bane from the batman and robin film was.

No I know quite a bit about Batman, and the reason I'm saying that the Joker and the Riddler would be similar in execution is that both aren't the type of villains to actually go head to head with Batman (obviously, not saying there's anything wrong with that), they're the type of villains that fuck shit up for Batman without actually fighting him. Yes, the Joker caused a lot of chaos, but Batman and him didn't really fight too much (like I said, not that there's anything wrong with that if you've noticed how much I loved the movie!), and the Riddler would be the same deal. I'm just saying I think it's time for a villain that can actually go head to head with Batman.

Quote from: wiki
In response to speculation that Philip Seymour Hoffman was approached for the role of the Penguin, as a British arms dealer in The Dark Knight, franchise director Christopher Nolan said he considered the character difficult to portray on film, explaining, "I'd be more excited to have Philip Seymour Hoffman in the film than to have the Penguin. There are certain characters that are easier to mesh with the more real take on Batman we're doing. The Penguin would be tricky."[3] Recently, viral marketing for The Dark Knight included a Gotham Times newspaper, featuring a newspaper ad for the Iceberg Lounge, one of the Penguin's businesses. Prior to the release of The Dark Knight in 2008, David Goyer ruled out using the Penguin or Catwoman as a villain in a future film, preferring to use antagonists from the comic that had not yet been portrayed on the big screen.

So apparently they want to use characters that haven't been in movies already.

I don't think it would be very hard to turn most of the characters into a more realistic style. I could see Poison Ivy as some Botanist using dangerous plants to kill people or The Penguin as an arms dealer. I love the fact that they make Batman and the characters in such a way that the audience can watch the movie and take it seriously without all of the eccentric and laughable characters that were in the cartoons/comics.

I also LOVED the way it was filmed.

Like the scene in Bruce's Manor where the Joker interrupts the party and Batman starts fighting him, its like someone recorded this shit happening with a handy cam or something if you can get what I mean.

Also, wasn't Bane Ivy's sidekick or something? I don't think they could just STICK him in there without her being part of it too.

No, that was only in his gay depiction of the movie. Never speak of it again.

I don't really see how Bane or the Riddler would contradict Nolan's take on the movies. Even Mr. Freeze could be explained away with some technobabble/liquid nitrogen shit.

I mean they already had Ra's al Ghul in the films, who's immortal. And you're telling me Scarecrow and Two Face aren't comic book-y?

riddler? bane? mr. freeze? why don't you guys just ask for joel schumacher to return as well.

what made nolan's batman movies good is that the villains so far have been fairly realistic and believable and not very comic book-y. I'd rather they avoid bad guys that have magic ice ray guns and ridiculous names like MR. FREEZE because there's no way they could pull that shit off.
obviously reinterpretations would occur dawg.  TWOFACE is no more realistic the way they did him than a riddler or a mr freeze would have to be if they sort of reimagined them to fit that tone.

I still don't see how Mr. Freeze (and his name of all things) is fundamentally different from any other villain so far.

It's really all about presentation.

No the ScareCrow was doing some kind of deal and then vigilantes dressed like BAtman showed up to stop the deal. I found it confusing the first time but I saw the movie again and I got it. I actually kind of liked it because it was kind of showing Batman refacing foes like he would in the comics or cartoon, almost a routine to it.
