i'm actually not annoyed with the context of your opinions because i largely agree with them! basically reading posts that summarize as WORKERS OF THE WORLD UNITE in every semi relative topic is very annoying

I've been trying to come up with a decent post for a while now, but there isn't much we can do besides watch as this gets worse and worse. we've got a lot of news since this started, and apparently there really are no good guys in this conflict! when this started I was more agaisnt Russia because of all the shit they did to Georgians leading up to this war, but georgia has done some really terrible stuff since then. there's no way this is going to end well for anyone.

Russia moves into Georgia from Abkhazia

Yeah, I saw that article just before! Georgia has withdrawn troops back to defend the capital after Gori got attacked (although apparently they just packed up and left when they saw the Russians).

I could've believed that maybe the Russians actually wanted to protect South Ossetia at first (maybe) but it's pretty obvious they're just using the original spark as an excuse.

Truth - if the Russians were trying to protect their interests and they've made all the Georgians retreat then why are they advancing and bombing futher inside Georgia? I'm not trying to rile you up, I'm just curious as to whether you still think it's Russians defending their interests or not. They might have been pushed into it at first, but they're certainly not trying to get out of it (considering there's a signed ceasefire waiting for them).

dude take a look at the georgian-russian relations link kaworu posted, Russia has done a lot of the same shit you're using as a BATTLECRY against Georgia. this isn't about stayin neutral, it's just that you absolutely cannot treat Russia as LIBERATORS in this conflict with all the terrible things they've done/continue to do to Georgians.

You are mis-categorizing the things I have said as being holier than though because they are not at all. There was an amazing amount of misinformation/shitposts in this thread. Every post was either "oh no this is bad" or "How can russia attack them?" until the last page or so. Your argument seems pretty superflous in a lot of ways, how are my posts more distracting than others posts? Jeff's post was pretty "condescending" (if feeling strongly on a subject and telling others you think they are wrong is condescending) and started somewhat of a tangent, however I don't see you getting angry with his post. In fact my post barely veered the topic off course, what four or five posts discussing what I said is now taken to be derailing a topic.

Somehow I think the only reason you are so angry about my posts is because you see me as some sort of hypocrite which is hilarious because I would say that you are probably also a very different person than you were say two years ago. (Should you be lecturing about how play world of warcraft too much is a stupid thing to do when one year ago you were the poster child for it? Absolutely you are probably the best person to speak of that). I would also go so far to say that my posts have been much less malicious and condescending than anything steel said to me in topics before.

What? How was my post condescending. Nowhere in my post did I tell anyone they were wrong, I was meaning for it to be educational about the situation because the people on IRC, including a bunch of politically savvy and smart people, were not aware of the general reasons for conflict in the region. I don't see what your issue with my post is anyway, you like to dress it up in pretty words with strong political connotations but it all comes down to competition over the resources in this region and each side trying to pressure the others, some more strongly and with military force, but the same principle applies. I don't know where you get your information but it would seem that your sources are likely slanted if they mention the same fervor as you took in your post. My sources are from professors of European politics and Russian history in classes i have taken on the subject, people who I have accused at times of being liberally-slanted themselves and yet they STILL would agree with the summary I gave in my post but okay, I must be wrong because I am the "resident republican" right? Because that is all I really draw from your post and that is what people are pointing out is condescending. You have taken no regard for the information I presented and don't seem to even realize that some of the political maneuvering you mentioned is as a direct result of things I mentioned but if you want to go on ignoring these things under the facade of "I don't care what people think of me blah blah" then go for it, but if you do then you need to stop implying that I am ignorant.

I definitely don't think this will be the last we hear about this - no doubt there will be a war of words going on for the next few days.
