has winona ryder been in anything decent? this is the first movie i've seen her in iirc, apart from the closed circuit tapes.
A Scanner Darkly was the first movie with Winona Ryder in it that popped into my head. It's actually not a half bad movie, if a little bit... uhm, odd.
Edward Scissorhands also came to mind, as did
Dracula. However, as of late... yeah, she's in the new
Star Trek movie.
Race To Witch Mountain Casts the Rock -- excuse me -- Dwayne Johnson, as an ex-con turned honest cab driver dude named Jack, who manages to get wound up in some sort of alien conspiracy thing. Suddenly, he becomes the big manly adult who pretends like he's vital to the safety of two extra-terrestrial kids who possess crazy ass powers.
The plot is supposed to be about Jack keeping these alien kids safe while they retrieve some sort of experimental data and then get it to their space ship, but as soon as the first major action scene took place, I had to wonder what, if any, reasons the kids would have to keep the Rock -- excuse me -- Jack around. One kid is telepathic and telekinetic, and the other is the male version of Kitty 'Shadowcat' Pryde; what good does it do to keep a meathead human cabbie around? OK, so neither of them can drive a car, so that's what Jack is for, right? Oh, wait. The kids came to Earth on a spaceship that THEY FLEW THEMSELVES.
Gaping plot issues aside, this movie serves the purpose of semi-campy tween-friendly entertainment and I have to admit that the fight scenes were better than I expected them to be. The Predator made a cameo appearance as some sort of an armored assassin dude and the Storm Troopers were a nice touch. In fact, this whole movie kind of struck me as "Star Wars: The Way Disney Would Have Done It If Given The Chance." It's not worth the price of admission, and I certainly wouldn't buy this movie, but it might be worth a rent if you like watching the Rock -- excuse me -- Dwayne Johnson get upstaged by a couple of kids with super powers.
