i really liked inglourious basterds, and this is coming from someone who thinks tarantino is an a-class douchebag. it's really hard for me to respect him as a director when he screens in tel aviv or wherever and yells DO YOU WANT TO KILL SOME MOTHERFUCKING NAZIS LET'S KILL SOME MOTHERFUCKING NAZIS to a bunch of israelis before firing the projector up.

i didn't think it was that predictable, though! surely the only thing left for Landa to do was but i didn't see it coming, especially after he i think it's just a matter of setting up all his symbolism early in the movie, which he did well. moreover, i really like the fact that everyone in the movie spoke the languages they were supposed to instead of everyone speaking english, and there was some very clever interaction of different social customs ()

Inglourious Basterds was an amazing film, I thought.  Even with the incredibly long scenes, it never felt like the movie was dragging.

What I liked most about it was how it broke a lot of "rules" for WW2 movies.  Jewish people weren't portrayed as victims, and Nazis weren't portrayed as evil bastards with no morals.

I don't really follow Tarantino outside of his movies, and I don't really want to because his movies are so much fun.  I was glad he didn't turn IG into a Kill Bill-type movie, but instead made it more like his earlier films.

Basically what Xanqui said about breaking the rules most notable and importantly DO NOT READ THIS BECAUSE IT IS SPOILERS AND BASICALLY WOULDVE RUINED THE ENTIRE MOVIE FOR ME uuuuuuuuuuuuck

i saw sherlock holmes and the road last night (snuck into both of them).  both were pretty okay.  sherlocks holmes was about as good as i expected it to be.  The road was alright, like I enjoyed it but it was pretty different than what I had imagined the movie was going to be like.

Extract was better the second time around. still not a great movie tho. it won't pick you up, but if you're already feelin pretty good then it's pretty good

also I had to see Avatar with my dad today and because of this I think I should be allowed to make a post about it. but none of you have an excuse so you better keep your fucken moths shut

the biggest problem with avatar is that it's on such a pedestal. cameron and everyone really talked it up, and in that context it's just an absolutely awful movie. it's definitely not A GOOD FILM. but if you're willing to forget that (I can't blame you if you aren't, this some pretty stupid shit), it's a pretty entertaining action flick. probably one of the better ones despite some of the really dumb stuff mixed in. garbage like transformers wishes it could touch garbage like this.

my two favorite parts of the experience were the tons of people waiting in line to get tickets outside in the below freezing weather just to see some stupid looking blue aliens. that was really cool (I was one of em) and also it was really neat when at the end there was that celine dion song, and then when we walked out into the lobby the Titanic theme was playing. it meshed so perfectly I thought for a second they were playing the movie audio in the lobby

I thought the alien culture was quite cool although I could tell it borrowed heavily from African stuff.

nah that's not what I mean. like I know you are from NZ so all that western shit probably seems the same to you, but if you were American that comment is funny kinda like my sig. primal, primitive...big lips and braided hair

no their actual culture/philosophy/fashion borrows from the european exploration era american indians and islanders. which may have been intentional to DRAW PARALLELS (as if they needed any help) but nah it was probably just cameron and crew being unoriginal idiots

the EAR GAUGES could look african but actually a lot of different cultures from all over the world practice gauging including the native americans

It had nothing to do with the way they looked but I get ya, I was thinking more of Mo'at who acted as the tribal Shaman. I knew about the hindu stuff/american indian etc tho.

no see that's part of the problem with calling american indians native americans. in this case native americans refers to the natives the europeans found when they first came to america (including civs that were never historically called indians).  it's refering to "the native" americans, not the "native american" race.

Any brits watch the 2-part adaptation of Day of the Triffids on BBC/HD? I thought it was really good apart from the ending but I guess the novel's ending is not as climatic as is required of a film.
