for the most part this topic annoys me. for the record i do not think the way you are going about this is the best way to do things. i think you are missing out on tons of different experiences that READING ABOUT ON WIKIPEDIA does not really emulate very well. there are tons of things that you are simply not doing and saying that you have no interest in it because you've been on a few hikes and gone to a few parties and MEH, no big deal, is somewhat short-sighted.
buuuut honestly, i don't care at all. i have no real problem with someone being a shut in. don't want to go out? fine. don't want to be around people? also fine! i don't want to either, most of the time. unlike other people in here i am not under the impression that this is something ALL PEOPLE NEED TO WANT TO DO OR ELSE. live your life however the fuck you want to. if you are asking whether or not it is okay to do this then yes, of course it is. you are hurting no one but potentially yourself by living this way. i do not agree with it and i would say you are making a mistake but cutting yourself off, but if you are happy and content with your life, then that is all that should matter.
here's what irritates me. gw is very predictable in how it will respond to things like this. i could have told you how this topic would go without you even posting it. what i like is that you cited interests as: books, movies, the internet as a tool for information and communication, television, video games, anime. here is what people paid attention to: anime, video games. no mention of any of the other stuff was made. you get dumb comments like this:

also contrary to what your favorite anime character believes in human beings are inherently social animals that require a basic level of social interaction to function properly. If you isolate yourself and live a hermit lifestyle then you will be doing it at the cost of your mental health.

Listen to the word 'nigger'. Forget the connotations, the meanings, just say it out loud and listen to the found your mouth makes. Based on the sound alone, the word seems a little funny, a little THERE IS NO E IN RIDICULOUS, and it rolls off the tongue very well. 'nigger' (and 'faggot' too actually) has completely lost its meaning connecting it to anything derogatory over there and is more often used not as just a descriptor for any person.
this is where you lost me, though!! i could not physically give less of a shit about how you live your life buuuut this is dumb as hell. language evolves continuously but appropriation and use of terms that are still VERY RELEVANT and VERY OFFENSIVE in pretty much any segment of mainstream society is pretty much the definition of racial insensitivity. outrage is a strong word, because i do not really care if you're an ignorant piece of shit, but do us a favor and don't try to intellectualize what is in any context, relatively inappropriate. the BOTTOM LINE is that you have taken one of the worst words still in use in the english language and, without regard for any of the conditions and connotations attached, arbitrarily relabeled it in a community that is still full of people from mainstream society. welp we all know what this word means and how people feel about it but it's okay! when we shut ourselves in our rooms, it suddenly means something different. it's not insensitive to base an insult off a slur to begin with at all, and it's definitely not dumb to use the term subculture to refer to a tiny Internet gaming forum that is 100% a part of mainstream culture and not a legitimate subculture in any way, making use of words like nigger not magically acceptable by virtue of cultural differences in perception. ahahaha seriously guy are you trying to argue that gross racial insensitivity is acceptable because RMXP.ORG is its own self-contained subculture and has its own sets of mores//norms??? because right off the bat it kinda sounds like you read the sociology article on wikipedia and thought HMMM.....
but yeah live your life however the fuck you want to. if you don't want to be around people, don't. i find EXPERIENCING THE WORLD OUTSIDE MY HOME interesting and appealing but if you do not and if this does not FULFILL you as much as being a shut in, then you are not wrong for not doing it. i do not feel like it is a good idea for anyone to try to enforce a lifestyle on someone if it is genuinely not what they want.
