Here's the problem:
When I run my computer with 0 of the 6 pin connections going to the video card it runs fine, the fans on the video card run and everything. When I plug the 2 6 pin connections to the video card the computer does not run and the fans spin up for like 1 sec and stop and then it repeats this. Also, If 1 6 pin connector is connected in either of the 2 6 pin ports it works fine. It only messes the computer up if both are plugged in.

I was thinking that this meant that the PSU was not powerful enough, but I used an online PSU wattage calculator and it says that 850 watts is fine.

What exactly is the problem?
I do not know if the video card is outputting a signal because my monitor has not arrived yet.

Hello everyone. As you've probably guessed from all of my other dumb tech support questions here, I've always had problems with my ram / motherboard.

Basically what happens is randomly my computer will beep when I try to turn it on. Basically the ram is no longer seated properly (it hasn't moved out of the socket, it hasn't been moved at all, it's the same as it has always been) and I have to re-seat it about 100 times before it will finally work. Usually I just re-seat my ram until it works, but now I am sick of this.

I want to buy a new component to fix this. What should I buy, new ram or a new motherboard?

I made the title simple, but this problem really isn't.

Here's what happened. So I've had this crappy hard drive for awhile now; it clicks, freezes my computer, files on it don't really even load anymore. So I took it out. This is where everything went wrong. I took out the drive and unhooked all of its data and power connections. Then I started my computer.

My computer now beeps with the following pattern:
<BEEEEEP> <Long pause> <BEEEEEP> <Long pause> *repeat*

I have an AWARD bios. So I spent awhile on Google trying to figure out what this means. I figured it was a RAM problem because I think I've heard this pattern before, but it didn't make any sense. The hard drive was far away from the RAM, the RAM was well seated and I didn't touch the RAM or even get close to the RAM. But every website told me different things. I've come up with a list of stuff the internet has told me is wrong (based on the info above):
-Could be a RAM problem
-Could be a video card problem
-Could be overheating of CPU

Overheating of the CPU was likely, since the past few days it has been close to 100 degrees here (F). So I decided to let my computer sit overnight. I pointed a regular fan at the fan hole on my case and went to sleep. I woke up the today and it was much nicer out and the CPU couldn't still be hot, but it's still beeping.


I've tried the following:
-Plugged the drive back in
-Reseated RAM several times
-Reseated video card several times
-Swapped out video card for different one
-Removed all but one hard drive
-Removed all hard drives
-Clear the CMOS
-Removed all USB devices
-Removed all add-in cards

None of this worked. I cannot try other RAM because I do not have spares laying around that work with my motherboard.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this or have any other suggestions for me to try?

After much use my laptop's touchpad has become worn down and quite smooth. It no longer has the nice textured feel that it once had. This is obviously expected, after all of it's use it's expected that it would eventually get worn down. My question is: is there any low profile cover that I can put over my touchpad that will give it back it's texture?

I have done quite a bit of searching for cheap computers. I am not talking about $300 - $400 computers, I am looking for a VERY cheap computer that I can use as a very basic web server. I have been looking to book sized computers, but I don't want to spend TOO much on this project. I am just curious if anyone knows of any computers (I don't care about the specs at all, I have a hard drive and some older ram that I can upgrade with) for less than $100. I have no requirements on the specs or anything. If it's less than $100, please post it.

I have done quite a bit of searching and all I could find is a $140 refurbished Dell computer but the site was sketchy. I don't care much about the condition, as long as it works and I don't care if it's used or refurbished.

I have also checked craigslist but there's nothing in my area that is what I'm looking for (most of them are full PC combos for $300+). I am looking for just a tower, maybe even barebones.

One of my hard drives keeps freezing my computer and then it clicks and everything starts responding again once it clicks. I want to find out which hard drive is clicking. I have all but my boot hard drive disabled in my bios but windows still has them listed. I basically want to prevent windows from using the drive so I can use trial and error to find which drive is clicking.

Can I do this?
I think this would be easier than unhooking each drive separately from my power supply because my case sucks because the inputs on my hard drives (for cables) are pointing towards the PCI cards which makes it a pain to do anything with the hard drives.

Recently it's been slower and it has been at 100% CPU usage constantly. I know this is a budget laptop, but I want to do a few upgrades. I figure it's better to upgrade the processor than the ram, so I want to find a new processor.

However, I have been unable to find any information about this processor. My friend says that it's a Socket M but I'm not 100% sure about that. Can someone provide some insight or some decent upgrade options for me?

I currently have a decent TV Tuner and it gets the job done for basic tasks such as recording TV. However, now that I am in college I do not have a TV anymore and I want to play some video games (don't tell me to use one of my room mate's TVs because they are usually using them. And don't tell me to get/bring a TV up there because there is no room). Hooking my consoles up to my monitor would require me to get a converter box, which are pretty expensive for what they're offering (if you know of a way to hook up a video came console to a monitor without a converter box, please let me know). So I figured if I am going to spend $50+ on a converter box, I might as well spend a little more on a GOOD capture card and get more value out of it.

The problem with my current capture card is that there is a significant lag between the image is shown on the TV to when it is shown on my computer screen. It is always about 5 - 7 seconds behind the actual stream. This is fine for recording TV since it really doesn't matter for that. For playing video games, this won't work.

My current TV Tuner is PCI, so I'm assuming that's contributing to the slowdown. I'm hoping to get a TV Tuner with any interface besides PCI and PCI-E x 16 (don't have anymore empty slots). I don't really want a USB TV Tuner because I'm pretty sure that will be just as slow as the PCI one I have right now. Besides, I'm pretty sure those are just for recording TV and taking VCR tapes to a digital medium.

At first I was thinking about getting an ATI All in Wonder, but those look like they're lower quality and the only one that didn't was basically a video card and a TV Tuner combo, which I don't want. Also, I don't know exactly what a dual tuner is, but from the name I'm guessing it means it has 2 cable inputs (right?). I don't exactly need this, but I don't care if it has it.

TL;DR? So the whole reason I am starting this topic is to ask if any of you know of capture cards that have very little lag between the real time image, and the image on screen. I understand that there WILL be some lag, since the signal has extra ground to cover, but I'm hoping I can find something that will be usable for this purpose.

Ever since I moved my computer into my dorm room I've had some pretty weird problems. This is the only one I haven't been able to find any information about and I haven't been able to fix it.
Before I explain, I want to say that I have done several health checks on this hard drive and all of them say that the drive is 100% healthy. There is no physical damage to the disk.

Here is what my bios says:
Above: This is what the initial boot screen says (I have a Gigabyte motherboard but the splash screen is disabled). The !!!!!!!!!!!!! 30/01K30 isn't supposed to be there. Usually it says 20 something.

Above: After it boots up (the hard drive that has the !!!! is the drive with windows on it), it goes to the above screen. I have tried to find information on this screen, but I couldn't find anything.

Basically when this happens I restart my PC continuously until it goes away and it boots normally.

Does anyone know how to fix this? Just as a side note I have recently cleared my cmos, but I don't think that has anything to do with it. The hard drive is connected via IDE.

I have recently had some problems with my computer. I moved it into my dorm a few days ago and it wouldn't show any picture on the monitor. I eventually reseated the ram and everything worked.

However, since then it's been acting funny. My computer would sometimes get slow and freeze. Shortly after that my computer would restart altogether. I found out that it was restarting because of a BSOD stop error which said "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL," which I found out was a memory problem when the computer tries to access memory and has an issue.

So once I found that out, I decided to reseat my ram. Once I did that my computer went back to the whole no signal thing. It simply won't POST. I've tried taking out all of my PCI cards and still nothing. I've disconnected every hard drive, still nothing. If I take out my ram, my motherboard beeps, pauses, beeps and continues to do that. According to what I've read, this shows that my mobo is fine and it's probably a ram problem. When I checked my temps (which I did when my computer started restarting) the video card was at 54 C and the CPU was at 58 C. However, when I took out my ram, it was REALLY hot. It was a lot warmer than the back of my GPU.

Now after reading online I think this is a ram problem. Can someone confirm this or offer some suggestions as to how to fix this? I know it's not my video card because I bought a brand new video card simply to test this and that video card doesn't work either. It's not the monitor because I tested that on another system.

I am currently running my website from a computer I have in my room that is setup as a server and it runs fine. However, I am going to college at the end of this month and I have a few questions since I'm not exactly a networking expert.

1. Am I still going to be able to run my site from this computer at college? Lets not get into the whole is it allowed argument, I'm just talking about functionality. Currently my connection is going through a router. This means that I need to forward port 80 to the IP address of the server in order for it to take web traffic (or at least that's how I understand it). However, I'm pretty sure in college our connections aren't going to be hooked up to a router. We get an Ethernet port right next to 2 outlets (each student) in our dorm room. So assuming the connection is not limited, will I be able to do this? What changes will I need to make? And what if someone else in a dorm room is already running a server on their connection? Right now if I type in my IP address I will go to my website. However, on my network all of the computers have the same IP address. I assume that this means all of the computers in the dorm rooms at college will have the same IP address. So what happens if 2 people are running web servers and I type in my IP address? Won't this cause conflicts when accessing my site?

2. (This is kind of unrelated but whatever) At college I will only get 1 Ethernet port. However, I have the web server and my main pc. I have read online that you can buy an Ethernet splitter, but this will not allow both connections to be accessed at the same time. I also read that you can get a network hub to add more connections. So if I got a network hub, I would be able to have more than one device on the internet at once? (I don't want to get a router for various reasons).

I can't provide much info about the dorm rooms because I haven't yet moved in. However, I want to get this all squared away before I go so there is no downtime.

So I posted this same topic on the Java forums because I felt I was nagging this community too much, but nobody there responded ​.

I am running Windows XP SP 3

SO! For SOME RANDOM REASON a few days ago java just started running SLOW! I was developing an applet and when I ran it stuff being drawn on screen moved EXTRA slow. I know this is a problem with specifically my computer because on my laptop (which is running Vista SP1) the same applet runs perfectly smoothly. This only happens with certain applets, but there's no difference in their coding whatsoever.

This just happened out of nowhere, one day I turned off my pc and the applet was randomly slow.

I have tried reinstalling the JRE and JDK. I have also made sure I have the most recent updates of java and I have ALSO tried installing earlier versions of java.
I have even reinstalled Windows XP on a BRAND NEW partition with no luck.

I have no idea what's going on.

I know it's a long shot, but but anyone have any ideas what's going on?

My hard drive (1.5 TB) clicks 11 times when powered up and then stops spinning. My bios detects it but it never shows up as a drive in Windows.
I tried using a SATA to USB converter and nothing shows up either (the converter works, I tested it with another drive).

Is it dead?

I looked up some sound clips of failing hard drives and this didn't sound like any of them.
This sort sounds like an old walkman changing songs and loading (sort of like a spinning noise) then a *CLICK* repeated 11 times.

It is still under warranty, but I want to be sure I can't recover anything before I send it in.

I just finally setup my old computer to act as a server running Ubuntu. I am using XAMPP to turn it into a web server.

Everything works great! If I type in my ip address, it goes right to my site.

However, here is where I have no idea what to do. I have a domain name which I have paid for. The question is, how do I apply this domain name to my ip address.

I really have no idea where to start. Usually I would just put in name servers into my domain website and everything would work.

Could someone please explain what I need to do now?

So today I turned on my computer and then waited a bit while I did some other stuff. I turned on my monitor and it said "No Signal" and the light went orange. This was quite strange. So I restarted and it did the same thing. Then I opened my case and saw that as soon as I turned my computer on, the red led on the back of the video card like turns solid red for a second, then really quickly flashes ~ 3 times (it's really fast, so it's hard to count). I have tried switching the port which my monitor is connected to, and there was no luck. It is using a DVI connection. I have also tried using a different PSU connection with no luck either.

I am using an ATI 4800 HD video card. I have a 530 Watt PSU.

Can someone please help?

Also, I cannot try a different video card. My motherboard does not have on board graphics and I do not have any other video cards to test this with.

This is quite annoying. After installing all of my computer components and putting my old hard drive into the new pc, I get BOSD'd after the Windows XP loading screen boots up. I can't exactly read what it's saying because my computer automatically restarts.

I put the hard drive back into my old computer and it works fine. Windows boots up and everything. I tried to do a repair of Windows, but that caused the setup to BSOD once it reached the GUI portion.

I'm not sure what hardware is causing the BOSD. The processor is installed correctly and is compatible with Win xp. I have 4 gb of ram, but I tested them both by themselves and it still didn't work, so it's not the ram. The only other thing is the motherboard. Do I have to update something on this current hard drive to make windows compatible with the other motherboard?

The only CD that came with my motherboard is this GUI program that shows how much energy you have saved. I don't think it had any drivers.

Does anyone know how to fix this? It's really frustrating.

I recently bought a set of parts in hopes of building a new PC. I have everything connected properly, except I can't figure out how to connect my front panel of my case (2 usb ports, speaker, mic, and firewire ports) to my motherboard.

NOTE: When I mention two colors, it means that there are two wires sort of wrapped around each other, both going to the same plug

- A green/white cable that splits into 2 single pin connectors. The green goes to the pin with a + and the white goes to the pin with a -.
- An orange/white cable that says HDD light on it. (2 pin)
- A gray cable that says Reset SW on it. (2 pin)
- A blue/white cable that says Power Sw on it. (2 pin)
- A black cable, but at the end it has wires and it has a yellow 9 pin connector that says HD audio. This also has another 9 pin connector branching off of it that says AC 97.
- A yellow/black cable that says Speaker on it.

I know what all of these cables are meant to do (except the AC 97 one), I'm not stupid. I just have no idea where on the motherboard to put them.
Also, there is a USB cable, but I know where that goes :P.

I really hope that these are compatible with my motherboard.

What I'm wondering is, is this a good setup? I don't want to exactly be able to play HARDCORE games, but I'd like to play some new games.

Also, I'm still picking a PSU; the current one is kind of temporary. I need a PSU that can support 2 IDE optical drives and 2 IDE hard drives. I don't know what these cables are called, but they have 4 pins on them from the power supply. I would also like it if it supported powering 2 (1 mandatory) SATA drives. Does anyone have any suggestions on these.
