QUEST CREATOR-lovely little early 00s fantasy dungeon crawl game creator. it's less of an engine and more of a game you can make your own missions in with whatever characters. I would always just make a big dingy forest and have my all-items, max-gold ogres crush the biggest monsters

not great screenshots but it's got that wonderful scrawly heavy-gridded old windows look

i found this while trying to find a different dinosaur game. walk out of the bunker into the enormous empty wasteland with dino billboard sprites and a cacophony of prehistoric sounds. a counter constantly ticks down, reminding you how long you have until a comet hits

my game has the same name, but is not for MS-DOS and contains Early Windows prerendered cg and a snotty cartoon dino guide. find eggs and "hatching crystals", peculiar Bone Builder minigame. unfortunately the only video i could find has this guy talking over it

Yeah, there's a lot of potential in there that generally remains untapped. It has come a long way though, the early days where you could just churn out a few paragraphs with some graphics and get featured on a gaming blog are over.

me, there's something disorienting & odd about games that try to work with, not fight against, the operating system aesthetic...
