Um, vending machine? You used coins for the vending machine in SSBM. So, vending machine.

Btw, vending machine. Vending machine!

And Sarhan, like I said I don't think anyone has a problem with it as long as tourneys don't complain about changes/etc because they arent AIMED AT TOURNEYS.

Like when the Earthbound stage was revealed people were like OH GREAT  ANOTHER STAGE WE CANT USE FOR TOURNEYS

that shit is dumb because the game is in no way made for tourneys at all

Yeah but he said not for shopping? Also I don't think they were in Classic mode (if I remember correctly)?

..you.. you got coins for everything, then went to the vending machine in the menu and gambled them for coins.

Not only is that not shopping, but it's not in ANY mode (it is in its own mode).

I remember gambling them for trophies.

I meant, did you receive coins for Classic mode in Melee? I could be wrong and you do, but I don't remember. I know there were coins, though. I thought his no-shopping comment meant something different for this game.

Yes, you get coins in classic. You get them the same as in adventure, at the end of each fight.

And ya, it's really probably the fact gambling != shopping. Could be something new but seeing as trophies are coming back I wouldn't expect it.

As long as coins aren't a cheap excuse for saying 'If you want King Dedede you need 5 billion coins sorry bucko'.

I loved trophies and I loved using them on the vending machine.  But it didn't take too long before you obtained all the trophies possible from the vending machine.  I don't think there was anything to use coins on after that.

You could use them to continue when you lost all of your lives.  Of course, who would lose to the CPU?  Besides me?

No, like once you get your fifth billion coin A NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES or something. That'd be lame imo.

Yeah.

I like this update, but it was pretty much a given. I guess I like the new system? I'm not sure. Not to offend anyone but imo Ike is enough from Fire Emblem, etc etc. Oh well, can't expect a Stage Builder update every day I suppose.

I would agree with you there if he didn't suck so hard. The guys who went to E for All said Brawl is much, much more balanced than Melee or SSB64 could ever hope to be, with the sole exception of Ike, whose speed gives him a severe handicap. He hits like a truck (he's supposed to be able to kill with a slightly charged smash at around 60-70%, think Marth's tipper but on every part of his sword) but he is way too slow to make use of his power. His moves don't have a lot of post-attack delay, but the startup lag is supposed to be pretty crippling. Not only that, but his recovery is very crappy (completely vertical with absolutely no horizontal gain whatsoever), which is a pretty big disadvantage considering the fact that he can't jump several times like Kirby and Dedede can (they also have completely vertical recoveries). If they make him weaker but somewhat faster, I'd be fine with having only him from FE, but I don't want the only FE rep. to suck. Either make him useable or add in another character.

yeah anyone who does something for money is really retarded, who works anyways?

you dont realize that tournament players get sponsored and make money for winning and going and stuff too right? if they can consistantly do good they are making more money than most of the people who work normal jobs yearly, and they have more fun at it too.

and no one LETs the box fall on their head, it just kind of randomly appears without notice and kills you.

i hate to further any arguments but i meant relying on video game tournaments for food i think a job is a more stable, sure fire way if you wish to live...but i dunno if thats just me

also, i know how boxes work in smash bros, i kinda REALLY REALLY love the series, but i dont think i've ever lost a life because a box fell on my head (and i pretty much always put items, and a lot of times for fun i set them so they appear extremely often...) and i can tell you right now i am no where NEAR a tournament playing level of skill... but otherwise i dont really care about tournaments or their rules (well i'd love to play in a tournament, maybe one day) just thought i'd like to point those things out

to some people playing in video game tournaments IS a job

one pro gamer, Alexis Hebert, competes in the MLG and makes 100-200USD a day for just showing herself in a public appearance, but makes roughly 40,000 USD a year, not including free hotel rooms, free meals, and gear.

edit: and shes not even close to DA BEST

I play AT MOST in the school year around once a week for a couple hours. In that time I usually lose at least one life dying because either a box, barrel, crate, capsule, etc spawned at exactly the place where I was either standing or moving and I flew off the screen at like the speed of light. It's amazingly unfair. I believe they got rid of exploding crates and barrels, though.

As this topic is for speculation on Brawl, I assume it's open to both tourney players and casual players. That said, I don't see why there is no room for speculation on what stages will or will not be used in tourneys.
This topic is more hostile than the Smash boards themselves. All we need now is a hundred people saying "u phail."

the reason you cant speculate is because applying the past games bannings on this one IS dumb...maybe items wont be so bad (for the most part its just the dumb EXPLODING BOXES) this time around and the smash community will allow it.

And all stages will be used except for those with random elements anyways. (like New Pork City has that dumb chimera)

u phail, lolz
(I fucking hate the kid who kept posting this image. I think he posted it in around 5 topics in one day.)

On topic, we should just drop the whole tournament discussion. All it does is provoke hostility anyways.

Pretty sure that's been what was said anyhow. :S
I agree, it has nothing to do with the past games.
Fans of the more wild, random levels shouldn't be offended by levels being banned from tourney play. Serious players most likely play those levels for fun too.

The stages on the dojo right now are probably only a quarter of the stages in Brawl, so it's no surprise that all (most) fall under the category of "too random for tourney play."
