this is a pretty stupid argument imo I THINK IT SOUNDS PRETTY GOOD YOU DONT HAVE TO FIT ANY MELODY JUST kEEP PLAYING THESE CHORSD
if you don't care for lyrics then use your voice as an instrument but if you're actually formulating words and singing them they should atleast make sense
I think you misunderstood what I said. I didn't mean that the lyrics couldn't make sense, the artist probably had some idea behind them but even so there probably isn't much to it and a lot of listeners probably just find it OKAY RANDOM LYRICS COOl and aren't bothered by it at all. This is the case with so many bands I couldn't even start listing them. And since you brought random lyrics up, I probably wouldn't be bothered by that as long as the lyrics don't distract me. I would prefer REAL WORDS to some random mumble jumble even if the lyrics don't necessary make any sense, it can still work well with the music. And Steel has a point, there are inoffensive lyrics and then there are clearly really awful lyrics but I don't think it's always possible to draw the line between the two since some people can stomach more than others. For example, I probably can tolerate way worse lyrics than Steel can because English isn't my native language and I doubt I pay as much attention to lyrics as he does. I appreciate good lyrics I can relate to or just think HEY THIS IS P.GOOD but lyrics are still almost always the last thing I pay attention to. Sometimes I listen to albums many times before I even start paying that extra attention to lyrics.
also as far as the whole art thing is concerned, i would consider any music which isn't made commercial success in mind art. like you make music for yourself and if others like it then that's cool. but you shouldn't make music to please others or to sell records. that's not art. that's merchandise. as for steel's artistic merit argument, i don't really have anything to say about that. if you weigh artistic merit in lyrics then yes finding artistic merit in metal will be difficult! i listen to metal because it has characteristics other genres don't. sometimes i like to listen to really heavy shit. i like the dynamics, i like the juxtaposition of heaviness and melody, i like some growling and screaming, and i like that mixed in with clean vocals, i like cool heavy riffs, i like lots of things metal has to offer.
i find a lot of metal uninteresting and boring and i don't just mean awful shit like slipknot, i just don't get (or care) a lot of metal which isn't even considered awful but even so i don't think metal is any worse than other genres. it's definitely not my favorite or most listened genre but i like metal and there is metal which isn't awful, i just don't dig it. to each his own. now i'm a boring person........
