I came here to report that the petition now has 200,000 signatures but now I feel kind of awful for signing it because Hundley has a very convincing argument :(

EDIT: I saw this picture somewhere on the internet and it's not very funny but it's at least relevant to the topic:

Uwe Boll has apparently declared war on Steven Speilberg and is claiming that Postal will sell more tickets than Indiana Jones 4!  He moved the release date so that they come out on the same day.  Maybe this sort of stunt is exactly why we need Uwe Boll in the film industry.

Uwe Boll also said that his cameo performance in Postal is much better than Ben Kingsley in Schindler's list

Me too, especially since I've watched a few interviews with Boll and he really does seem to enjoy making movies, which kinda fucks up my 'Uwe Boll is a Machievellian mastermind playing us all for schmucks' theory...

Expect to see Verne Troyer running around New York in a Indiana Jones outfit that weekend.

THIS IS A TRAGIC DAY FOR GAMERS EVERYWHERE:

Quote
Renegade film director Uwe Boll has told MTV that he approached Blizzard for the film rights to World of Warcraft.

He was not-so-politely refused. According to Boll, "I got in contact with [chief operating officer] Paul Sams of Blizzard, and he said, 'We will not sell the movie rights, not to you... especially not to you.'"

LMAO! Thank god! I'm glad the games' creators are just as big fans of Boll as their consumers are.

We're slowly getting to a million, but as goat said, I doubt Boll will honor his word.

I really can't understand why everyone (only GW actually) is hung up on Boll. Apparently Uwe Boll makes shitty movies and George Lucas makes shitty movies, but we hate George Lucas because his movies are more popular?
Seems like an exaggerated attempt to go against the grain.

no.
George lucas has INFLUENCE. Like even though the original trilogy were pretty good films (well TESB mainly), they have only really had a negative impact on the film industry. Lucas is one of the people... the main person responsible for the sorry state of movies nowadays, where it's all special effects and no plot. Doubled with the fact that he's an arrogant egotistical prick make him the kind of person you should go for.

Why go for Uwe Boll? He does have a passion for movies but yes they are really really bad, but there is a sincerity in them, he's trying but just doesn;t understand why his movies are so terrible. But Boll has NO INFLUENCE. Going for Boll would do nothing. Only a total idiot would say he's ruining the reputation of games... because ONLY gamers tend to watch his films, and they watch them because they know they are bad. (but yeah HOW DARE HE RUIN OUR PRECIOUS EPIC GAMES LIKE BLOODRAYNE, FARCRY, POSTAL and HOPUSE OF THE DEAD... SUCH STORY DRIVEN GAMES CANNOT BE RUINED I WILL HUNT HIM DOWN AND KILL HIM)
So yeah why go for the insignificant guy who isn't really doing any wrong? The guy with no influence?

Surely this amount of coordinated effort should be targeted towards the lucas' or the tarantinos, y'know, the guys who are ruining cinema.
Things like this are great examples of how the gaming community AS A WHOLE cannot look past it's own small bubble(gaems) and see a big picture... of any kind.

It's not that Uwe Boll is good, it's "why the fuck should anyone care that much about him".

Also I'm sure whatever WoW movie Boll would have done would be more enjoyable to watch than whatever WoW movie is eventually made.

On one side of the arguement you could say that Boll has completely ruined the reputation of ever making a good game to film transition. We all say game to film doesn't work, but maybe if a good director took on a project it would be different.

So he is influencing the film industry in a way. Studios will now just say "a game to film? No way! get that shit out of here!"

Sorry but Mario brothers, Doom, Resident evil etc etc are far more widely known than Boll movies, and tend to be the ones brought up outside of gamingforums.

Yeah, Boll hasn't even done any damage to fucking game films compared to what's already come before him, especially considering the other ones are more well known.  Most people outside of gaming communities don't even know who Boll is.

He went to Blizzard and asked about a WoW movie but Blizzard told him, "GTFO!"

Thanks for pretty much just reposting what Kaworu said.  Not like the movie Blizzard will eventually have made will be any good anyway.

if anybody thinks farcry's plot would make a good film, they should be transporte back in time to an Auschwitz gaschamber (We are combining humans with apes to create super soldiers. OH NO THEY'VE STARTED ATTACKING US)
Videogames generally have terrible plots. That's why certain games are essentially resorting to BEING MOVIES (hello mgs series) ir order to get their point across. Even as a medium it's just really bad to work with because most games tend to hold the players hand and explain everything to them as if they're children. Not all games do, they are some games with great stories. So you can't really expect game movies to ever be good conscidering how most gamelpots are 99% based on exposition.
