Dark Knight was a continuation on the story of Batman that Christian Bale had reprised. Doing such a great job in the first film it was no doubt that the second film would be just as good if not better. The fact that they introduce not one but two major villians in this film made it impossibly great to watch. Joker and Two-Face Harvey Dent was a great addition that worked well off eachother.

Christian Bale did find a way to prove his acting experience in showing the anguish and hurt he felt for the loss of his leading lady Rachel Dawes. She was a pivotal character in the first making an anchor for his characters reasons for changing and for his reason to be a less volitile combatant. He decided to do good using the fear of others and to try to bring vigilante justice without becoming what he wanted to fight against. In the second film you didn't see such a playboy as you did before, thought there were scenes that you would suggest were similar you could see it was no longer for the love of being a playboy that the character would do it so well he would try to refrain from being playboyesque. With the Joker being his main enemy I found that he was realising more that there are more people out there than your typical by the rules outlaws. You see him having to delve deeper into that dark world to level the playing field which does play out the phrase that Harvey Dent explains to Bruce at a dinner. "You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain".


The Joker who was reprised by Heath Ledger was an uncommon face, and very dark. He had moments of insanity with moments of congnitave thought. His irrational way of thinking only seemed that he didn't know what he was doing or that he knew what the outcome would be but the further you watched the more developed the character seemed to be. Well rounded in my opinion with his many character flaws like his inability to tell the truth about what was really going on and how it was all going to truly happen. You could see that there were some things that he could definitely count on in his planning like the change-over from good ol' harvey dent to the lies he spewed to change Harvey into the Two-Face character. It seemed much more that the Joker was developing other characters more than he was developing himself which is what he was truely mean't to do. To show people what they really were beneath the skin... dead or alive.


Harvey Dent, who will soon be better known as Two-Face especially if they decide to make another Batman film with Christian Bale and Aaron Eckhart seemed quite the nice guy though I felt his acting was quite insincere in this film, like he didn't know how to truely present the character. There were some pittfalls to having him cast thought he did quite well in the eyes of most he didn't have the range that was required to bring out the character completely. The face that they had created to be the Two-Face to continue on didn't seem like what I remembered from my childhood of comic books and character quibbles. He seemed less fleshy and less the immoral inhuman character that I would have expected and more terminator meets batman... very strange in deed but I guess this is something that has to continue and we can see how it will turn out. The death of Rachel Dawes leading to the villiany of the character is just what I had hoped for nonetheless.


All in all it is a movie that I thoroughly enjoyed and would see again over and over again. When it comes out on dvd I will probably be one of the first to pick it up and have a movie night with the family.
